Broadway is coming to the stage at Neshoba Central Elementary School this week featuring short songs, dances and scenes from many famous musicals, movies and plays.

The Neshoba Central Theatre Group will present “Welcome to Broadway” Saturday at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the elementary school auditorium.

The performance will include scenes from Disney musicals such as “Frozen” and “Moana;” Broadway musicals and plays like “Annie” and “The Phantom of the Opera;” and movies such as “Sing” among others.

Show hosts are Kaleb Turner and Nalani Thompson, who will introduce each scene as the show progresses.

Theatre Director Angela Boatner said the performance features 39 students, plus the school choir, as well as a number of teachers and parents.

To celebrate the spirit of the Rockets, Boatner said Neshoba’s cheerleaders will be included in the opening number from “High School Musical.”

She hopes to draw a crowd to the performance.

“I couldn’t ask for a better cast,” she said. “They do fantastic jobs.”

Senior Posey Palmer is very excited to be a part of the cast.

“I’m really looking forward to the group performances because they bring the whole cast together,” she said. “It brings a lot of different voices and talents into each song. It’s great seeing it all come together.”

Sophomore Hallie McDill agreed, noting that the group acts are really exciting.

“Kaleb Prewitt and I are doing a song and dance together from the moving ‘Pure Country,’” McDill said.

Another member of the cast, Autumn Robinson, praised all the leads.

She is looking forward to seeing how the entire performance comes together, following weeks of practice. She said it was fun to see all the drama scenes.

Tickets to the performance are $5 each. They are available from Boatner or any Theatre Group member. They will also be available at the door.
