Our Mission Statement: Our goal is to promote students' lifelong learning by providing accurate and current materials in a comfortable environment. We strive to support the classroom curriculum and promote the appreciation of literature and reading.

General Information
The Neshoba Central Elementary Library is a very busy place serving approximately 1,500 students in grades Kindergarten - Grade 5 and 140 faculty and staff. Approximately 1,100-1,500 books a day are checked out and in. Our library is staffed by Katherine Ray, Librarian, and Tonya Gentry, Library Assistant. We are proud of our library collection of:

  • 24,674 books
  • 802 videocassettes
  • 271 other audio- visual items
  • 95 vertical files
  • 32 magazine subscriptions
  • 1 local newspaper and 1 state-wide newspaper subscription
  • 11,874 Accelerated Reader Tests

Our present school term (August 5,2005-October 20,2005) library circulation is 41,721 items. We are proud to say we have added 970 new items to the library this school year.
We feel this ranks with the largest public school elementary library collections in the state of Mississippi and is material that supports the curriculum and provides for the recreational needs for our students and teachers.
The library inventory :

  • equivalent of 17 books per student
  • 11,470 new books have been added since September, 2000
  • total value of the library collection is approximately $356,059
  • average price of a school library book is $14.82

A computerized system controls library checkouts, returns, reservations, overdue notices, etc. The students' lunch number is used for the student library number. All students must know their lunch number in order to check out books. A library computer terminal is reserved for borrower inquiries, which may be made by searching for author, title or keyword. Full bibliographical details are given on the computer screen, together with whether the item is currently available or out on loan. We are open daily for library research, reading, storytime and checking out books. Books are normally checked out for one week and renewals are possible if no other borrower is waiting for the item.
