Spelling Activities:
Below are a few suggested activities for you to try at home with your child.
- Practice writing words in Play-Doh!
- Separate the words into syllables and sort them into categories
- Draw a picture for each word
- Make a crossword puzzle using all of the words
- Practice typing the list on a computer keyboard
- Make circular flashcards for the words then practice reading and spelling them
- Say and spell the words into a tape recorder and listen to them
- Have a parent dictate the words into a tape recorder and then practice writing them as they are heard
- Use your fingers to practice writing the words in a pan of salt, rice, or sand
- Practice writing the words on a chalkboard
- Practice spelling the word in the air
- Write each word on a pair index cards and play a game of concentration
- Write words using different colored crayons each time
- Use letter tiles or cards to mix up and spell words
- Practice singing, clapping, stomping, or snapping each letter as you spell the words
